Chicago, IL – April 22, 2014 – The GiveForward website announces the Jeff Simpson Kidney Fund. A Fund to ask friends and family to help raise money to cover medical and living expenses related to Jeff's kidney transplant.
On October 30, 2012, the Simpson's lives were changed when they received a phone call from a doctor that told them Jeff had serious kidney disease and only had 24% overall kidney function. He would need to start medication immediately- dialysis and/or transplant would be imminent.
Jeff has been diagnosed with IgA Nephathropy. It is a disease where proteins; that usually help fight off infection, settle in the kidneys and build up in the small blood vessels destroying the kidneys. This is a disease that cannot be reversed, complete kidney failure is eventual.
To date Jeff's kidney function is holding between 15 and 19%, just above the requirement for dialysis- something we are super thankful for. Jeff's family is hoping that Jeff will not require dialysis before he gets the transplant. I know what your thinking- how are they so sure that he is getting a transplant soon? They know because Jeff has the most awesome sister ever- she has chosen to donate one of her kidneys to help save her brother. There are no words that convey our appreciation for this tremendous gift.
Unfortunately their battle has not only been with the disease but with medical insurance and disability coverage as well. Thankfully as of September 2013 Jeff was granted enrollment in his employer group health/medical insurance plan. However with every piece of good news comes bad news. Merry Christmas to us, Jeff's employer's disability carrier has elected not to cover Jeff when he goes out for the transplant surgery. This will make paying bills- including the medical insurance they fought for and must keep, impossible. This is why Jeff's family is asking help.
They know it is hard to part with your hard earned money for something you will not benefit from. So they aren't asking for a lot- just a little. Think of it like one of those posts you see on Facebook that go viral, "If I get a million likes I get...." If everyone could donate a dollar and pass it on that is all they ask. Whatever you can donate, even if it just words of encouragement Jeff's family will be eternally grateful.
